As a former glass and metal artisan for twenty five years, I gradually moved towards using beautiful debris, metals, actual garbage, manufacturing refuse and re-purposed 'sames', repetitive objects and the general flotsam of life in the 20th and 21st century.
Not personally driven by trending culture (or the culturati, as I prefer to use), but instead, the refuse and debris it creates enables me to think in a more expansive, conceptual manner. Recently I addressed a themed series which encapsulate the subjugation of our willing enslavement to things, to presentation. For example, high-heel shoes are a type of bondage; to beauty, culture, and reproduction. Much of my work is generally based on these ordinary but fascinating anomalies of human nature. Presently, I am working with materials towards “The Selfie; 20/20.
In 2011 I returned to the fine arts, having been trained in the traditional Dutch Masters tradition from the age of nine on, under the tutelage of late American Master, Carroll N. Jones Jr. He would be happy to discover I am back at the easel, even if in more of an impressionistic style. However, I continue to create three dimensional works in between, to assuage the spirit in my fingers.
